Zovi Partners with Klarna to Bring Buy Now, Pay Later to Aesthetic Clinics
Patients who can split a €400 treatment into four €100 payments do not hesitate, they book. Here's how Klarna inside Zovi is already lifting average order values and checkout rates for clinics across the DACH region.
A €450 laser treatment used to require a patient to have €450 sitting in their account, or be willing to put it on a credit card. Either way, the moment of hesitation at checkout was real, and clinics felt it in their booking rates. That changes today.
We're proud to announce that Zovi has partnered with Klarna to bring Buy Now, Pay Later directly into the Zovi patient app. Starting May 29, patients at Klarna-enabled clinics can split any treatment, membership, or product purchase into four interest-free instalments, right at the moment they're most motivated to book.
Why BNPL is a revenue lever, not just a payment option
Aesthetic treatments sit in a unique price band. They're not impulse purchases, but they're also not house-sized financial commitments. They live in that €100-€800 range where patients often want the treatment but hesitate at the full upfront cost. Klarna eliminates that hesitation.
When a patient sees "€112.50 × 4 payments" instead of "€450 today," their psychology shifts. The treatment no longer feels like a sacrifice, it feels manageable. Clinical data from Klarna's merchant network shows that BNPL availability increases average order value by up to 45% and conversion rates by up to 30%. In our early Zovi beta, clinics using BNPL saw checkout completion rates climb even faster because the patient is already inside a trusted, clinic-branded app, not on a generic checkout page.
What this means for your clinic specifically
Whether you run a single-location medspa, a laser studio, or a multi-location aesthetic group, BNPL has measurable impacts across different parts of your business:
More memberships sold, at higher tiers
Membership upgrades are often blocked by the upfront annual or quarterly fee. When a patient can pay €149/mo as four €37.25 weekly instalments, the psychological barrier to joining, or upgrading from Starter to Premium, drops dramatically. Expect to see a meaningful uptick in your Growth-tier and Gold-tier membership conversions.
Treatment packages close faster
Multi-session packages, six laser sessions, a full filler series, a skin-boosting course, are your highest-margin offerings. They're also the ones patients most often say they'll "think about." With Klarna, thinking becomes booking. The patient commits to the package now; the financial spread gives them the breathing room they need.
Same-day upsells land more often
When a patient is already in clinic for a facial and your staff recommends adding a microneedling add-on, the answer used to be "maybe next time" when cost was a concern. Now, your patient app shows the instalment breakdown instantly. A €180 add-on becomes four €45 payments. "Maybe next time" becomes "yes, add it."
Abandoned carts turn into completed checkouts
Zovi already tracks cart hesitation, patients who add a treatment but don't complete checkout. Our automated re-engagement pushes previously offered a discount. Now they can also surface a Klarna payment option: "Still thinking? Split it into 4 easy payments." This is a fundamentally stronger re-engagement hook than a discount, because you're not eroding your margin.
How it works in the app
The Klarna integration is native to the Zovi checkout flow. No redirects, no third-party windows, the patient stays inside your branded app throughout the entire payment. Here's the flow:
- Patient adds treatments or a membership to cart
- At checkout, they see two payment options: Pay in full or Pay in 4 with Klarna
- Klarna's real-time soft-check approves eligibility in seconds, no hard credit inquiry
- Patient confirms; the first instalment is charged, the rest auto-scheduled
- Your clinic receives the full treatment amount within 48 hours, Klarna handles the instalment collection
Which clinic types benefit most
In our rollout analysis, the strongest BNPL lift comes in specific clinic categories:
Medical aesthetic clinics & medspas
High-value injectables, laser resurfacing, and combination treatment plans are natural BNPL candidates. Average ticket sizes in the €300-€900 range respond best. Patients are highly motivated (they've researched and decided) but price-sensitive to upfront commitment. BNPL removes the last friction point.
Wellness & IV therapy studios
Membership models, monthly IV drip subscriptions, and detox programmes are ideally sold in bundles. BNPL makes a 3-month or 6-month commitment feel like a manageable monthly charge, dramatically improving the LTV trajectory of each patient.
Skin clinics & dermatology-adjacent practices
Acne treatment courses, pigmentation protocols, and anti-ageing programmes often require 4-8 sessions. Selling the full course upfront has always been aspirationally correct (better outcomes, better revenue) but practically difficult. Klarna changes the conversation: the patient gets their clinical outcome, you get the full series revenue, and neither party carries unusual risk.
Hair removal & laser studios
Six-session and eight-session packages are the backbone of laser revenue. BNPL converts the "I'll think about the package" patient into a same-visit close. Combine this with Zovi's automated post-session rebooking nudges and you have a powerful retention engine.
Enabling Klarna in your Zovi dashboard
If you're on the Growth plan, Klarna is available as a one-toggle activation in your Zovi dashboard under Settings → Stripe → Payment Methods. You'll need:
- An active Stripe Connect account (you likely already have this)
- To accept Klarna's merchant terms (standard, ~2 minutes)
- A minimum average order value of €50 to enable the BNPL option at checkout
Once enabled, the Klarna option surfaces automatically in your app's checkout. No development work, no new integrations, no code changes. Your existing Zovi app configuration handles everything.
The bigger picture: reducing friction at every price point
Klarna is one piece of a larger philosophy we're building at Zovi: every financial friction point between a patient and a treatment decision should be removable. This year, we're also working on:
- Membership instalment billing, Monthly spread for quarterly/annual membership plans
- Treatment savings wallets, Patients can pre-load credits at a discount, redeemable against future bookings
- Dynamic pricing nudges, Smart Offers engine can surface Klarna availability as part of personalised retention campaigns
The partnership with Klarna is the first step. The destination is a checkout experience that never lets cost be the reason a patient doesn't book.
